Wines, Hikes & History
Wine enthusiast, history buff (make that ancient history), throw in a couple inspiring hikes and this is your type of vacation! This adventure is Sardinia by land, by sea, by wineries, by ancient archeological sites, by mountain towns and BY-PASSING the crowds!! We spend 2-3 nights in each location exploring its cultural highlights and tie it all together every single day with another "best meal I ever had!"
In Brief:
Day 1: Airport pick up and we're off for a week of endless adventure! Guided tour of Serra Orrios and Tomba del Gigante Thomes; archeological sites dating back to 1600 a.c. An elaborate Sardinian lunch (they always are!) and check-in to spectacular Hotel Su Gonone for afternoon/evening of relaxation.
Day 2: Exploration of highest plateau in Sardinia, l'altopiano del Golgo; church of San Pietro, the abyss "Il Golgo," hike to Cala Goloritze, beach and swim time, traditional Sardinian barbecue
Day 3: Visits to interior island villages of Orgosolo and Mamoiada. Wander the streets of Orgosolo lined with "Sas Murales" lively murals painted directly on the walls of homes and buildings and taste some of the finest wine at Mamoiada's oldest winery.
Day 4 & 5: Oristano and beyond. Guided tours of the ancient nuraghic village and sacred well of Santa Cristina. Hike along the pebbly beach and nationally protected park, Is Arutus. Travel back to Greek times at the site of Tharros and climb up to the tower of San Giovanni that overlooks it.
Day 6 & 7: Today we are headed to Alghero, the old Catalan-influenced settlement. Along the way we make a stop at the mysterious Roman Necropolis of S. Andria Priu. Boat ride to the Grotta del Nettuno, one of the largest sea-caves in Europe, strolls along Alghero's cobblestone streets and a tour of the elegant Sella and Mosca winery estate.
Day 8: Savory the delightful Italian cappuccino before morning departure to Olbia.
